Senior Web Designer Eric Leitzel

My Current Objective

To expand my skill set I am diving deeper into the programming and scripting side of Front End Development. My eyes have been opened to the beauty and creativity behind well written code.

Topics that relate to this objective are Object Oriented Programming (OOP), SOLID Principles and Agile. Technologies include JavaScript, AngularJS, PHP, Sass and Bootstrap.

Recent Efforts

Currently I am reading a fantastic resource written by Robert C. Martin called Clean Code, A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship. And yes, by reading this book, I too have a new uncle, “Uncle Bob.”

My last review my manager gave me high marks for taking it upon my self to start learning Angular JS among others. This meant I I had to hone my JavaScript skills. With knowledge of scope, namespaces or JavaScript Modules and Immediately Induced Function Expressions, I feel my skill level is transitioning from intermediate to advance.

Past Notable

Since 2012, I worked my way from a contractor to a full time Web Designer I. In March, 2014 my team leader promoted me to Web Designer II, also known as a Senior Web Designer. During the second quarter in 2014, at an all Wichita employee company meeting I was awarded three “Dinner on Us” certificates. These awards are solely based on customer feedback regarding my performance.

Education

I received a Masters in Business Administration majoring in Management from Newman University in August, 2010. While in graduate school at Newman, I was awarded nomination into the Pi Kappa Theta honor society which exemplifies excellence in leadership, scholarship, faith and service. I also have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Kansas State University.

Core Skill Set

fire-poster-cropMy best abilities revolve around creativity and problem-solving. In fifth grade, I was awarded the Fire Prevention Poster Contest grand prize for all of my age group throughout Wichita, Kan. The mayor presented me with a ten-speed bicycle at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in front of all my peers, and I was also entered into a parade.

For the contest, I had recognized a need for families to know what to do in the event of a fire and to have a plan of action. I decided families should devise an escape route together and then sign the declaration or plan. Visually, I demonstrated the family evacuating a burning building via fire escapes on one side of my poster with the signed declaration on the other. It was a unique problem to solve as a fifth grader, but it shows my lifelong strengths to problem solve and communicate visually. I have received many awards since then, but this is the most memorable.
